Illustrated People are a relatively new brand based in East London, having only launched less than ten years ago in 2003. True to their name they are an illustration T-shirt brand who specialise in hand-printed graphics. For SS12 however, the brand have delved into the technological world and created a creative collection of knitwear, jersey cropped tops, tee's and vests with geometric, angular motifs and slogan digital prints. The stock seems to emit the urban, cool and modern woman whilst still conveying a sense of quality and luxury. And, they are available at ASOS and Topshop but you can also purchase their stock on their online website too, so please check them out! Men, you don't have long to wait until the brand branch out in Menswear, and with the popular androgynous designs so far I can see that also being a huge success.

The angular silver necklace ($20), Colour-block clutch ($58) and Suspect platform heels ($130) are all from Nastygal.com, whereas the camel shaded tunic dress (£46.00) along with vibrant lipsticks are from Topshop. Unfortunately, I am not seeing my better half this evening as I am in Nottingham but we did celebrate our own make shift valentine last week whilst I was home which involved a spa day, home cooking and Chinese lanterns. It was an absolutely lovely day full of surprises and it was kind of nicer that it was our own day rather than the annual, manufactured event. I am however, going for a few drinks with some of my girlfriends tonight. If I was going out for the day or night with the boyfriend then I'd probably be wearing something similar to the above. Lots of colourful lippy is coral or pink alongside either a practical jumper or semi-casual tunic. Those high wedges are beautiful and will easily come in to good practise for spring/ summer this year. Absolutely love the angular necklace with different tonal silver.

One of the biggest trends from the Tradeshows was the emergence of denim. I realise that denim has always been around but this year it is re-arriving with a vengeance. Jeans will and already are being a huge trend for S/S 2012 but this year they aren't plain, raw blue washed pairs but are as bright and colourful as a Jamaican sunset. Think bold and choose a shade that is either as sugary as candy in a sweet-shop with an array of pastoral, pale shades or as neon as nightclub glow-sticks with shocking tones from illuminative yellow to beaming pink. Now, just to decide which pair...

A Premium experience

This is the last post on Berlin Tradeshows, I promise. The third and final Tradeshow attended in Berlin was Premium. Some people didn’t rate Premium in comparison to Bread and Butter but I thought it was an equally impressive event, just slightly smaller. The Visual merchandising might not have been as grand but it was still very interesting in terms of the garments and products on offer. Especially in the Seek section, that housed more independent, emerging, small brands with distinctly modern and youthful designs. In the centre of the Seek section was the nicest rustic restaurant, selling beautiful food. I opted for a caesar salad and it was probably the best I have ever eaten! One of the brands I fell in love with at Premium was Our Legacy. The Swedish brand was formed officially in 2005 and is now being retailed in many shops around the globe and is increasingly becoming the A.P.C. of the Scandinavian region. I thought the menswear brand had such an authentic, individual nature. I particularly adored the aged, vague, polaroid style lifestyle photography which came with ample wit and 90's charm. In an interview with Anthem magazine the Co-founder Cristopher Nying describes the brand: To create timeless garments in a natural, well-dressed, and comfortable way… not over-strained, nor too fashiony; conservative but playful and relaxed in expression; sophisticated yet light and nonchalant; made to look thrown together in a perfectly natural way.

The Bright Tradeshow was install for the forth day in Berlin and was such a different Tradeshow compared to Bread and Butter. Bright was so much more informal and casual, the sort of people that attended were super cool skater enthusiasts. Brands showcasing were sport and lifestyle brands like Vans and Volco. At the Tradeshow there was a beach stand where free mojitos were served, a cinema room and also a rather wacky crazy golf room designed by artists. The place was really good for networking as people were less intimidating and friendlier than at the previous Tradeshow. I went to Bright as press on behalf of The Clothes Show Style Scouts but did more work for my friend’s emerging magazine. The first Tradeshow I attended in Berlin was Bread and Butter, probably one of the most well-known Tradeshows for industry professionals. Now, Bread and Butter is HUGE, the event is held in an old airport and takes up pretty much the entire building. Room after room the Tradeshow continues, all split up into different areas of style; Sport and Street, Street Fashion, Fashion Now, Style Society, Denim Base, Urban Superior, L.O.C.K and the Treasury.

My favourite being Street Fashion, Style Society and Urban Superior. These rooms really had a more creative and current vibe, with a mix of fresh and up-coming independent brands that have a feel of street-culture at the heart of their designs. The Style Society section was slightly different as this section was about designs that were understated and refined, more sophisticated and exclusive but still very much youthful and soulful.

There was some really great brands but one that stood out from the rest was CLOSED

Closed is an amazing brand, not only is their clothing fantastically young and modern but their ethos is bang on the money for today's economy. Their philosophy being that of form followed by function. Every piece has integrity; being made from fabrics with longevity and quality. The aesthetic is casual and 'lived in' something that is popular with lifestyle clothing. Just take a look at their website and the photographs below that are mini videos, very cool indeed.

Back in the UK, and absolutely overwhelmed with work so I am afraid I won't be a dedicated blogger for the next 2 weeks. However, when possible I shall do a few more posts on Berlin, like what I bought and an outfit post as well as a post on the tradeshows. I will surely be back to Berlin as there were many areas that I didn't get to venture to as the trip was crammed with tradeshows. However, I think next time I will go during the summer where I can experience Berlin’s outdoor, sunny lifestyle of bike riding and eating outside. Berlin is a truly inspiring city with so much to offer, if you are ever considering venturing to Germany in the future make sure you check this place out; as one of my postcards says ‘Berlin has it all’.

Really excited to go and explore a part of the world I have yet to venture. As a way of helping me discover my personal style and taste for a self promotion project I joined Pintrest. Over the past month I have been pinning imagery that I like and now I have accumulated enough to start evaluating it. It turns out I am quite feminine in my visual choices and tend to go for overtly fanciful design aesthetics. Colour palettes are soft and subtle pastoral shades of lilac, duck egg blue and dusty pink. I have always known I love soft ethereal lighting and whimsical photography as my favourite photographer is Candace Meyer, you can see her magnificent work here. I have noticed that I am particularly drawn to nature with forestry and flowers being a frequent motif - this surprises me as I am very much a city girl but I do notice that when I am away from nature for too long, I miss it. Another aspect I have identified is that I am actually very English in my tastes, quintessentially so infact, despite wanting to like modern, clean, bare lines I'm truly drawn to character, period deigns and homely features.

I shall continue pinning and enjoy doing so, it has helped reveal to me what I really like opposed to my perceptions of what I like. If your yet to start a pintrest then don't delay any longer!

The ice dance

At this time of year I start to feel very happy, humble and grounded - probably because I am at home with my family. These feelings urge me to watch some of my favourite fictional fantasy films like Death Becomes Her, Wizard of OZ and Beetle Juice. I love escapism so it isn't surprising that Tim Burton films are high on my list of all time classic movies. However ultimate, personally, is Edward Scissorhands. I love the themes explored in this film, from dark romance, self-discovery to isolation and Gothicism. The story reminds me of the Brothers Grimm fairy-tales but with more humour and whimsicality. This clip is one of my most cherished scenes, I get chills just hearing the eerie but beautiful music. The infamous 'Ice dance' or 'snow scene' is so ethereal and moving with the slowly falling flakes of ice - I could watch them falling on Winona Ryder's fingertips all day. The sad illustration at the end of this video may express my fascination for all things upsetting and otherworldly.

Clothes Show Live 2011

On Friday 2nd December I embarked on my second Clothes Show Live Style Scout mission. This year’s Clothes Show promised to be one hell of an event with a star-studded line up including performances from Kimberly Wyatt and Alexander Burke as well as the Fashion Theatre presenters George Lamb and Grace Woodward. So, I was excited to be covering the event and the task of discovering some stylish shoppers enjoying the annual fashion event in Birmingham.

On the day my friend Cara and I headed to the Dance show, which was based around the concept of the department store. This season’s show boasted some of the best dance routines yet with a great mix of genres from ballet to street, creating a visual delight. The soundtrack to the show every year is a great merge of current chart toppers that make you want to get up and join the model dancers on stage – if only you could move the way they do! The show featured all the various floors of a department store and using an elevator prop, Menswear, Women’s designer wear, Urbanwear, lingerie and wedding wear were some of the areas explored. Each floor had its own bespoke dance routine that matched the mood and aesthetics of each clothing section which meant lots of energy, fun, sexiness and humour.

Aswell as the show we had a brilliant time rubbing shoulders with celebs in the VIP room and participating in one of the top UK shopping sensations of the year. My second Style Scout mission was another success. The official launch of the Style Scouts is imminent so make sure you have the free Clothes Show Style Scout APP available on on the iphone!

Xmas wishlist

A bad cold and hectic university deadlines have kept me away from the blogging-sphere for a while, I know. Anyway, I am back now and have created a lovely Christmas wishlist (yes sunglasses in winter). I need a new bag and these Mischa Barton totes are within my reach and right up my street. The emerald green bag with gold detailing is probably my favourite, followed by the navy one and then the cream. Her new collection satisfies my need for over-sized bags with an edge. Nichole Richie has to be on my wish list and I already know that Santa has bought me a sunburst House of Harlow necklace (really meaning my lovely boyfriend) which I am very grateful and excited for. This glittery Madeleine Thompson beanie is adorable if only I was indeed a hat person and with a streak of hippie in my blood I think that her Winter Kate velvet golder brown dress with wizard sleeves would look great with boots and that necklace!

Photoshoot for La Senza's new hosiery line

The lovely ladies at La Senza - with special thanks to Emma Goble, asked me to participate in a hosiery style off for their online blog in relation to the launch of their new fashion hosiery line - and of course I said yes!

I wear two types of tights. A pair with beautiful rhinestone detailing and a sexy pair of stocking look-a-likes. Not forgetting the cold English weather I teamed the first pair with black heeled Chelsea boots, sporty-luxe black shorts, a floaty sheer cream blouse and a thick, warm black coat with fur trimming. These tights could easily be adapted for evening wear but I thought this combination of styling made them wearable for the day. The second pair of more risky tights I wore with a black skirt with plenty of movement and a knitted jumper. The high waisted skirt allowed for the tight detailing to show through and the knitted jumper not only made it a practical ensemble but made the tights less provocative.

Hosiery’s are a great way of injecting a bit of playfulness and uniqueness to an outfit. The eclectic selection of La Senza hosieries mean there is a pair for every person and every trend. The pair with strips wrapping around the surface are a perfect addition to the fetish trend full of bondage references and dark colour palettes. For the current glamour trend the lace-look tights would give a feminine and modern edge. For those of you who are more daring, the spot and star printed tights would give a nod to the ‘potty for dotty’ and galaxy trends. With Christmas coming up the glitter ball trend means my favourite rhinestone tights will be fitting for the festive occasions too.

Press preview

Whilst I was in London I was lucky enough to visit Emslie Creative PR's press preview for Nichole Richie's S/S 12 collections for Winter Kate and House of Harlow. The event was held at the basement of The Soho House where tea, coffee and croissants were on hand for all invitees - along with a lovely bunch of people helping to make you feel comfortable in your surroundings and informed about the collections. The clothes and accessories from Richie's collections are inspired by her travels around the globe to exotic destinations and this is evident in her use of celtic, mosaic and tribal prints and patterns. Vibrant, feminine and nature inspired hues saturate luxurious silks and 100% cotton. One of my favourites was the long navy maxi dress with Moroccan neck embellishment. Others include the popular black suede fringe jacket and an oversized, kimono-like silk dress in a soft pastel shade of pink and busy, eclectic print.

The shoes - both flat and high - are made from soft and supple fabrics like suede and leather. The magical prints extend to the footwear too but the patterns are taken from animals and reptiles. Snake, leopard and lizard skin cover some of the shoe's surfaces. This evokes a sense of the desert, jungle and vast plains that surround the foreign lands that Richie has lent inspiration from.

Retro shaped glasses in Richie's iconic large shapes also come in animal tortoiseshell and leopard print. I was astonished to find a pair in my goody-bag; thank you so much, all I need now is a ray of sunshine to wear them!

London trip 2

I went to London on the 16th-17th of November to see the Post-modern exhibition at the V&A. The exhibition was brilliant and I would recommend it to anyone interested in design and creative fields. For anyone wondering what post-modernism actually is, I understand it to be a time for the experimental and rule breaking - or more to the point 'an unstable mix of the theatrical and theoretical (a movement) that defies definition.'

'Drastic departure from modernism's utopian visions.'

The exhibition went through different types of post-modernist movements from unique architecture to Memphis furniture, art bricolage to punk fashion, original film direction to unusual graphic design.

Aswell as this exhibition I went to 'The making of it' exhibition which exampled some of the most ground-breaking design in modern-day. Then I went to Summerset House, which is a magnificent building with bags of grandeur. There I saw the Dazed and Confused exhibition which celebrates 20 years of the publication. This is a small but great exhibition which really captures the quirky spirit of Dazed.

Apart from visiting exhibitions I wanted to see London. Locations included cupcakes in Covent Garden, clubbing in Soho, shopping in Oxford Circus and lunch at Sketch. London is a magical place in the run up to Christmas with an abundance of glittering lights, xmas trees and plenty of hustle and bustle. I would LOVE to go back soon but my bank balance differs.

In the spirit of post modern

This coming Wednesday I am venturing to London with my university course to see one of the most highly anticipated exhibitions 'Post-Modernism, Style & Subversion 1970-1990' at the V&A. A future trend for 2012-13 is the Sharp trend which integrates bold, effervescent and rich colour palettes with structured, simple and conceptual silhouettes. Shapes seem to frame the body, creating striking clean lines that reference the geometric colour blocking of the Piet Mondrian paintings. This sense of impact and vividness provides wit and humour, qualities that exude the post modern.

Apparently, this trend direction is for undergraduates like myself who will have to stand out as 'smarter and sharper' in order to tackle the competitive creative industries and ultimately get a job.

Going back to go forward

I love painting, it is a serious passion of mine or it was. I am trying to get back into it as when I came to uni I kind of lost touch with it all together. My favourite type of painting is water colour seascapes. These images are the first I have painted in a very long time so my technique isn't as accomplished as it used to be. I really need to get my hands on my old work from A Level and play around with it in Photoshop like the top image as I think it could make it much more interesting. This year, I am really trying to get back to my roots, my loves in life. Just because I am doing fashion now doesn't mean I can't draw and paint and write literature. However, it does mean it will be a lot harder to do around my studies. I feel like a joker juggling, trying to keep everything up the air until something, eventually drops. I guess that is the life of a fashion student, to learn the art of multi-tasking. Thank god I'm a woman then, mother nature should be on my side.

Inspire me

Work is pretty intense at the moment at university and I want to start everything at the same time so I get a heads up. Right now I am thinking about starting my portfolio but I need some inspiration. As I want to be a journalist I would like to inject a feeling of the magazine in to my aesthetics. Magazines are fantastic for graphic design, compositions, typography, illustration, imagery and styling. With so many publications at my fingertips it is hard to find my muse. I like the urban, underground and alternative qualities of Dazed & Confused, i-D and 1883 but then I also like the feminine, ethereal and modern aspects of Velour and Lula. I am really into graphic, geometric and slightly masculine designs but I'm not sure whether that really expresses my personality.

Part of my portfolio is to create a visual CV and business card so finding my visual identity is key. I have signed up to Pinterest to try and help reveal this to me but honestly my style is so eclectic I can't define what I like. Finding myself has to be one of the hardest things I have had to do so far on this course. If I was a colour what colour would I be? If I was a typeface what type would I be? Would it be large font or small? Itallic or bold?

I can't answer these questions right now but I don't have long to discover them. If anyone thinks they can answer any of these questions I would really appreciate it.

The lovely Amber Wood from Emslie Creative PR has invited me to the press preview of Nichole Richie's S/S 12 collections from Winter Kate and House of Harlow. Luckily it is during the same time I am already in London for a University project. I love Richie's bohemian sensibility, eclectic designs and feminine twists. Some of her clothing has a very apparent mix of tribal, ethnic and almost medieval references. The colour palette for S/S 12 (above) looks delicate and subdued with the use of soft greys, light taupes, pale pinks and subtle creams. The future trends seem to be big on the 'less is more' mentality with natural, authentic and simplicity playing major factors in creative design. However, I am interested in seeing how this approach is combined with monochrome patterns and plant motifs. Most of all I can't wait to see her House of Harlow jewellery. They are always slightly vintage inspired with embellishment, the use of interesting and angular shapes and multi-coloured stone settings. There is a provocative Scandinavian feel that comes through too, maybe that is unintentional, but the use of geometric design and strong lines reminds me of Nordic prints. Although Richie's aesthetics have more of a gypsy vibe with the use of the eye symbol, fringing and large pendants.

Monki magic

I was looking on a blog - Rachel's blog - and a post of her's on Monki having a free magazine made me remember this cool, new, fun and affordable brand. I discovered that they have a concession in Selfridges and from then on became really excited about them. As you may well know by now I love Scandinavian designers and Monki are a new brand to the UK which cater for the young creatives who want great fashion at respectable prices. Here is a video that really captures their casual tone of voice, quirky designs and unique essence.

I am really into leather and sheer fabrics this season so it is no surprise I love Hazan Hejazi designs.
I first saw one of his striking creations on Jessie J when she performed on Alan Carr's Chatty Man. The floor length red dress with a centre slit rising to Jessie's waist had an almost futuristic glamour quality to it. I needed to discover which visionary was behind it. Unbeknown to me Hejazi had been previously featured in Dazed and Confused, Nylon and been stocked in Harrods. The photographs above are from his Autumn Winter 2011-12 collection.

Dyed shiny leather, silk panelling, transparent fabrics, drapery and skin tight construction juxtaposed together to create drama, sensuality and a Latin American feel. The use of transparent panels and clever rouching in the waistbands & cuffs gave it a modern luxury feel. There is an understated sexiness that dominates the collection, with sheer transparent maxi skirts and alluring thigh high splits unveiling lace trim stockings enhancing the femininity of the collection. Rich golden hues are contrasted with dark black to evoke more sophistication whilst the use of vibrant reds with a pastel pink deep hem clash together to emit more of a playful mood. The leather gloves add an element of the dominatrix which reminds me of the fetish trend. However, these dresses are a more glamours and subtle version of whips and chains.

If only... I adore Stella McCartney's autumn and winter collections with soft pastoral shades and injections of jet black McCartney keeps to her signature palette. The pieces are simple, elegant and modern making them timeless wardrobe staples. I would kill for one of her Falabella bags - I think the fine silver chain trim frames the shape of the bags perfectly and I can tell even by the pictures it is superbly tactile.

Not done a look post in ages so I thought I would do one with this shocking pink jumper from H&M - honestly I am not sure whether I like it or not. I admire the colour in it's own right but on a person it is rather vibrant however, at the moment I am stuck wearing dull and lifeless shades of black, grey and brown. I love these staple hues but I feel the need to inject a little 'razzel dazzel' back into my wardrobe. I am living in knitwear lately so, hearing my pleas my boyfriend lovingly bought me a navy skater dress from ASOS. I am generally a girly girl but the cold weather is making me scarily basic and boring! I admire those that have a knack for effortless style but I feel almost too casual without lots of rings on or a smear of lipstick. Mentioning cosmetics I have ran out of alot of make-up and now have to some how find the funds to restock. I know most of you out there will be saying 'just buy the cheap stuff' but I pride myself on the good brands like MAC, Bobbi Brown and NARS. My very first blog was called beauty fix and was about cosmetic trends, runway make-up and beauty news but with little success I decided to focus on this fashion blog. Maybe one day I might start it up again.

Pentland project

A few images from my Pentland project for university which was picked to be displayed in an exhibition alongside 36 other students. I was so happy to be selected to exhibit as I had spent so much time over the summer on this project. The brief was basically to use two brands, one fashion led and the other technologically advanced from a selection of Pentland's brands and lend marketing/product ideas from one and apply them to the other. Sounds complicated in my wording but it was quite straight forward, the difficult part was coming up with the ideas! I chose Speedo and used Boxfresh's communication strategy to target a new younger and more trend led consumer for a new Speedo range.

At Madeleine Thompson it is all about those winter comforts of soft knits, calming colour palettes and slouchy silhouettes. These three casual wardrobe staples are ideal for layering, especially the burnt orange knitted waistcoat which is my favourite item. The great quality all these three garments share is that none are offensive or avant-garde which means they will look good on anyone. Chloe has a new sister, See by Chloe, a youthful and quirky brand that retains the original Chloe Parisian vibe. I am really into Scandinavian design at the moment. Sweden seem to be really at the forefront of fashion and interior design right now. Some of the most interesting brands have emerged from this innovative country such as Acne, Cheap Monday, WhyRed, Firth Avenue Shoe Repair and of course Hennes&Mauritz (H&M). I really admire their very graphic and creative print designs that are often inspired by nature and the novelties of life. I think Swedish and Danish designs are really about clean lines, detail, vibrant colour with an element of craft. However, the end result is superbly modern and unique. Darling Clementine is a Norwegian design agency inspired by past history and their Scandinavian design roots. They have a really refined visual identity and make the most witty and fun cards. I am back at university and what better way to celebrate the new term than with a few cocktails at this amazing place, Coco Tang. Everyone who lives in Nottingham has probably discovered this awesome gem and I especially love it. The environment is a mix of luxury details and quirky raw aesthetics like exposed brick and wood. There are cosy, intimate areas where fairy-lights twinkle and drinks flow along with a secret room filled with warming candles. It is just a lovely place to rewind after a day of studying.

Day out in Manchester

So, my friend Holly and I decided to go to Manchester for the day on Friday as firstly Holly had never been and secondly the weather was so glorious that we thought a day out was a great way to make the most of it. Our day was jam packed with shopping, eating and walking. We saw Piccadily gardens, Manchester high-street and the Northern quarter and all it's vintage stores. One aspect I was especially excited for was Urban Outfitters as Nottingham and Sheffield lack this magnificent brand! Above is a sparkle and fade jumper and dress I bought along with a quirky pendent necklace which will jazz up plain outfits. The shoes are an absolute steal from Garage shoes and the leopard print jumper is part of Zara's new knitwear collection. I bought the cross pendent from a jewellery making shop and attached it to a chain - so all in all it was a fabulous destination for fashion. The feel of Manchester was lovely, it seemed very similar to London in that it oozed creativity and design. At £13 return from Nottingham on the train I will certainly be returning to visit more of this wonderful city.

Just a few snaps from Judy's Affordable Vintage Fair on Saturday 24th, I was only there for about half an hour as I arrived late (completely forgot about the event)! The place was bursting with hand picked vintage and hand-made clobber ranging from Levi denim shorts, chunky boots, metallic and jewelled clothing and mountains of jewellery and bags. I spent a whopping £8 on a maxi skirt and star pendent necklace, however I had to sew some holes up in the skirt when I got home. Memo - check clothing before you buy, especially at a vintage fair!

London Fashion Week

So, I am back from London and the few shows I was able to attend at London Fashion Week were amazing. The entire experience was a huge deal to me as I did it on my own which meant serious planning, organisation and a stiff upper lip. London is a big place and even though I spent two weeks there for work experience at The Daily Telegraph last year, this time round I felt a lot less prepared -which was probably down to the fact the commutes were new to me and the locations of the days were different each time.

On Sunday I went to see Jayne Pierson’s S/S2012 show at St. Luke’s – ‘The Mobius Strip’. The catwalk show was more like a theatre production as models, from The Royal Ballet, danced elegantly down the runway; twirling, swirling, shimmering and spinning to the soft music. The draping fabrics mirrored the dancer’s movements with fluidity and genteelness. The clothes themselves were directional, luxury womenswear and menswear with leather pleating, metallic surfaces and prints alongside heavy knitwear and lustrous silks. The organic fabrics juxtaposed with the garment’s avant-garde details such as enlarged, frilly shoulders. Colours were a palette of chalky grey and pastel taupe amongst bright hues of metallic orange, champagne and gold. Hair was big bouffant creations which completed the clothing’s larger than life personality. The narrative to the collection was the idea of history and the future forming simultaneously. This was represented through the morphing texture, built up surfaces, raw, organic elements and clash of materials. All this is hard to detect in the lack of photographs and poor resolution so, I would like to apologise in advance - an SLR camera is increasingly becoming a priority. The second image is the fabulous bag of goodies I received from this show – let me tell you that hairspray is a godsend!

On Monday I attended the Look magazine pop up lounge at Westfield Stratford City for a chat with Look’s beauty editor, Sophie Beresiner and fashion director, Hannah Hughes. The first thing I want to say is this was actually the highlight on the trip as it isn’t everyday you get to discuss practically anything casually with fashion professionals. Discussion ranged from how they got into the business to what Sophie’s favourite lipstick was – Dior in premier red by the way. The main purpose of the talk was Sophie’s blog; Sophie feels better dedicated to the charity - Look good, feel better. You may already be aware but for those that aren’t Sophie was diagnosed with breast cancer in January and as a way of expressing her feelings, methods of coping and aspects of the inevitable hurdles such as loss of hair and a mastectomy, she made a blog documenting her experiences. The blog is a huge inspiration, whether you’re going through cancer or not, it is a great read as Sophie has a way of seeing the light in every situation – she injects humour and wit into what really is the dark and sinister. As a beauty editor you expect beauty content and there certainly is! She offers insight into the world of cosmetics and wigs – important aids for a woman going through the effects of cancer. During the talk, the lovely and down-to-earth Sophie expressed how the blog helped her get through this tough time with the support of her blog comments and fiancés very sweet guest posts - congratulations by the way on getting engaged!

Something I discovered which was particularly exciting was that Look magazine has launched a cosmetic range and I have absolute conformation that Sophie has had a lot of input – ranging from the specific colours of the products to their names. The products are only available at Westfield Stratford City at the moment but should filter into a Superdrug near you very soon. Sophie was wearing one of the lipsticks infact and the word must have spread as when I went to buy it, it was completely sold out!

I only briefly chatted to Hannah Hughes but she was equally as lovely and approachable as Sophie which makes me adore Love magazine and its fundamental accessible, laid-back nature even more.

The S/S2012 Fashion Shenzhen show was next on the agenda and as the photographs from the first show came out awful I decided to record this one in two parts. So, grab a cupper and have a watch. This show was my favourite out of the two. The first exotic and vivid collection reminded me of Spanish flamenco dancers as the dresses were adorned in embellishment and ruffles in sensuous silhouettes and warm, flamboyant colours. The dresses lengths gradually increased throughout the show to the final striking dress which hugged and accentuated the curves of the female form. There were a few garments that weren’t dresses including a pair of very revealing navy knitted leggings paired with a fitted dark boob-tube. I think the video for the second collection may not be working at the moment – I will look into this if it doesn’t start working soon. This collection sported a slightly softer colour palette of whites, yellows and blues in colour blocking and prints. Half way through the collection was the introduction of white netting, which became increasingly more elaborate and decorative. From both collections I got an understanding for Fashion Schenzhen’s glamorous and sophisticated aesthetics and how the power of shape can enhance the sexiness of the female body. Packing for London fashion week and don't know what to wear! Most people are like 'don't wear heels, only try hard socialites wear them to the shows' but I want to wear my H&M black boots because they are super comfy and give me a little more height. I think I should just be myself and wear what I feel my best in. I just don't want to come across to 'try hard' you know? Anyway I shall pack far too much stuff of what I love wearing at the moment and decide on the day depending on weather etc. The leopards are coming with me for sure and probably this shirt too. I have already posted a look of me in the shirt but the reason for these pictures are that they are for YAHOO's fashion section, Style it light: My Fashion Treasure. However, as I live in Sheffield and have no-one to live with in London I can only attend 2-3 of the shows due to cost and travel times. Included in the shows I cannot attend is a very suave evening roof top garden fashion show at The Sancum Hotel in Soho for Design Collective Scotland - I am sure this would have been sensational. Unfortunately, before you ask, I can't give my unused tickets away! On a brighter note I want to focus on the excitement of the shows I can see: Jayne Pierson, Fashion Shenzhen and maybe Dans La Vie.

Just take a look at their colourful website with interactive shapes and images you can move around freely amongst collage-like ripped graphics. The tone immediately feels creative, lively and optimistic. However, the clothes aren’t maverick pieces of avant-garde but utterly wearable and sophisticated.

The feminine pieces dazzle the eye with glittering embellishment, metallic surfaces and luxurious fabrics. In the abundance of glamorous evening-wear there is plenty of staple day-wear too like knitted jumpers, tailored trousers and fitted blazers. Above is a selection of three pieces from the autumn collection to spice up your wardrobe in warm tones of autumnal red, daring lengths and sexy silhouettes. At a budget busting £430 the maxi dress won’t be entering my wardrobe anytime soon but it is hard not to appreciate the quality and uniqueness of this brand and their products.

It is reaching ever closer to my move in date for year two of university. I am excited to get back into the swing of things with my course and back to the student life style. Year two sounds chaotic but fun which could prove to be a deadly combination. I have loved this long summer break so a part of me will miss spending so much time at home with my loved ones. However, once reunited with Nottingham and my Nottingham friends I am sure it will make everything a lot easier to cope with. Anyone else moving to uni this year?

I am on a hunt for a bunch of knitted jumpers for this season and this one is my forth splurge from H&M for £14.99. Although they only had a size 14 left I bought it anyway and it actually looks great baggy - looks even more snug! This black elasticated waisted short skirt is from Ark for £19.99 and is perfect. I have been searching for this exact skirt for over two weeks and the fabric, length and price are all bang on what I wanted. I love Topshop boots and had my eye on an expensive pair but then I saw these in H&M and they are almost identical versions but for £24.99 nearly a third of the price. The heel is small enough for daytime wear (very practical), they aren't real leather or suede so won't get ruined in the rain and come with a proper chunky and well-made sole!

Callard Manson

Callard Manson is a relatively new boutique in the Devonshire green quarter of Sheffield that I have recently discovered. The magical shop that boasts exposed brick walls, metal work and original wooden floors creates a raw environment that reflects their natural products, nature inspired motifs and arts and crafts style. They sell beautifully made clothes including Vivienne Westwood which attracts wealthy professionals but also stocks art, design and fashion books along with interiors, jewellery and home accessories ranging from my buy of a silver trinket box for £2.50. Spread on two levels the shop is small but spacious and most uniquely has a cafe for a cup of specialist tea or coffee and sweat cakes and buns.

If your ever in Sheffield I would recommend a stroll along Division street where this shop lies for an abundance of quirky vintage stores, stand alone boutiques and a lovely selection of sociable pubs.

Zara have a knack for good knitwear - their clean, simple and quality designs inject expense into an outfit for a respectably small price. This Zara jumper dress with glittery thread weaving in and out the surface looks well beyond its £29.99 price tag. The grainy pattern of the jumper reminded me of the linear qualities and dark colour scheme of this worn garage door. A photoshoot was inevitable.

Some of my internet buys have finally filtered through my letterbox and I am overjoyed with these leopard print loafers and cross necklace. The shoes just give an edge to what would be ordinary outfits and the cross necklace is delicate and short in length. The H&M jumper is pretty simplistic but the colour and shape make it an autumn must-have. The beautiful garden well that belongs to my boyfriend - I especially like the clock and Bovril sign, so Yorkshire.

Dina Said launched her fashion label, Nana's Closet back in 2009 inspired by her beloved nanan's wardrobe, which instead of being full of fusty, flower printed and dated clobber, is over-flowing with beautiful hand-made items. In 2010 Dina won Egypt's designer of the year which catapulted her in to the lime light. However, I have only just un-earthed this talented designer! Luxurious fabrics are mixed with functional but unique designs under a heavy influence of tribal themes. Her collections are a bounty of femininity, embellishments, fine detailing, colour blocking and cut outs.The items are extremely wearable for special occasions, I especially adore the black dress covered in circular and gold discs, giving the LBD a modern makeover.

Cristina Cernei

Cernei began in 1998, born out of the adoration of quality and originality. The exquisite detail of the garments lies in their hand-made designs and willingness to custom make garments for their clients. The dresses are especially magnificent with blooming floral prints, vivid stripes and shapes in draping fabrics of silk, viscose and cotton. The uniquely designed vibrant taffeta dress 'Rochie Otilia' in purple hues echoes the tailoring of Vivienne Westwood. Perhaps the most striking is the floor length 'Rochie Jade' dress with a wild animal-like pattered surface. The beauty of the garment lies in the shape, flattering cut and exposed cleavage which combined helps create a sense of sophisticated sexiness and elegance.

Nad Lynski

With an impressive academic background in design and work experience alongside prominent French designers like Pierre Cardin, Popy Moreni and Gianfranco Ferre, Lynski was destined to start her own fashion label. In 2003, was the launch of her first ready-to-wear womenswear collection and from then onwards she has expanded her brand to menswear and childrenswear. The 2011 womenswear collection is a concoction of tailoring, structure and contemporary style. The pink dress made up of hundreds of delicately made flowers creates soft texture with feminine flair and visualises Lynski's talent for dressmaking. The majority of the garments are simple shapes and designs in white, black and grey which make for staples in the wardrobe. The versatility of the ruche sleeved jackets, high waist skirts, modern pant suits and knee length boots can be mixed and matched to create several interesting and wearable outfits. The menswear collection is equally interchangeable with layering being a key focus for Lynski styling. Ankle grazers, waist jackets, casual graphic tees combine for a laid back trendy vibe. I particularly admire the use of an hen in the women's woodland photoshoot which adds a element of wit and fun to the simplistic designs.

As Madonna once famously put it 'we are living in material world' and wanting to work in the world of fashion 'I am a material girl'.

I can't help being seduced by shopping - the whole experience of owning something, taking it home and knowing it is yours, well nothing quite comes close. I am fully aware we all need to cut back on our spending habits and start focusing more on how we recycle and dispose of our fashion. I tend to sell all my old clothes on Ebay or give away to the local charity shop however, I spend the majority of my wage on MORE clothes, MORE jewellery, MORE shoes and MORE make-up. I just can't help myself.

The reason for the rant - this week I was in boots and with the discovery of it being a triple points day talked myself into buying D&G perfume. Perfume is one of the most luxurious, pretentiousness and unneeded products around; we can live without perfume, but we don't want to!

Having this glass bottle resting on my dressing table brings me great joy and the fact it is designer brings me even more. I need to learn to retrain myself better from the alluring temptations of retail but until I can I shall enjoy looking about my perfume.

First of all, apologises for the bad quality images, but I wanted to share what I wore last night for my friend's birthdays. You may remember this leopard print playsuit dressed down but I thought it would make a nice evening look paired with heels, a jacker and belt.

So, tomorrow is the big day when I discover if I made the ultimate top 5 of the Look Show competition. I have a mix bag of emotions all rolling round my insides like clothes in a washing machine. The girls in the running are fantastic and all have been warm, friendly and congratulatory - I would be honoured to share the front row with any of them frankly. However, the standard is high, so even though I am proud of myself for making the top 20 and excited for the possibilities, I am nervous and afraid too. Only time will tell and as I am off to the Doctors tomorrow I am just hoping the winners are not announced whilst I am away from my Laptop!

Glittering cosmic, swirls of dusty vivid hues, marble-like designs are fast approaching our high-street atmosphere. Fashion is hot for the galaxy right now as the idea of escapism and futurism is being increasingly important desires. To keep the trend in orbit why not mix it up with other current trends. An androgynous biker-rocker look expresses the sense of travelling but with more attitude. Injecting this colourful, spacey vest with studs and black leather accessories makes the idea of astronomy more exciting and cool.

Saturday 27th August I celebrated my boyfriends brother's 23rd with family and friends. It was a lovely night, getting everyone together, socialising and catching up - not to mention the style that was going down too! The photographs are of a selected few who definitely made the effort! I really love Alex's dress from Dorothy Perkins paired with a sheer kimono and turquoise wedges both from Topshop. I have to mention the birthday boy who is wrapped around her waist who is wearing a lovely black thin jumper with jeans - going for a casual look. How great do the next couple look - Lucy and Will. Lucy had a bit of a spending spree in H&M buying this faux leather black skirt, light pink shirt and black Topshop slipper loafers with Pandora and H&M jewellery. Will is looking great in his dark green body warmer and grey smart trainers. They will all probably kill me for doing a post on them but I couldn't resist! The two bottom pictures of romantic lights is from a wedding reception I have also been to recently. I love tea lights, it gave the evening a warm and intimate vibe all night. Something to bare in mind for future events...

Miss Selfridge have a corker of an A/W line-up. I especially love the black midi-skirt with sheer over-layering and the PVC trousers. It appears that the beloved rich and warm autumnal colour palette is back in, inspired by autumns crisp fallen leaves.

Black is always in fashion and with the fetish trend in hand I foresee goths becoming the trend setters. Miss Selfridge do a more sophisticated but sexy approach with the far right hand corner dress. The cut out detailing allows for the curves of your body to be on show. The PVC addition gives the ladylike silhouette the grunge factor. I shall most definitely be visiting MS come payday to help stock up my seasonal wardrobe.

Another pit-stop is ASOS - now after ordering my LBD from NastyGal.com I have become a lover of Cheap Monday. Aswell as there cool name they have great clothes and jewellery. Next on my 'I need' list is this Cheap Monday Hawk ring for £12! Bargin.

The runways for A/W were lavished in wild prints inspired by the animals that roam exotic jungles and vast plains. Snakeskin, fish scales, leopard prints and fur were all to be seen draping a herd of models from likes of Guess, Chloe and Prada.

After revelling in the designer shows interpretation of all things untamed I couldn't suppress my primal urges for the high street alternatives that I could afford. To my relief my city centre had evolved into a tropical forest amongst the concrete and brick; Topshop, Miss Selfridge, H&M and River Island are but to name a few of brands that were seduced by the animality of fashion. Prowling the streets of my city I sniffed out a few gems which I am drooling over.

Look competition

I am quite baffled at the moment. One evening I sat down and contemplated about entering the Look competition and feeling ambitious and enthusiastic I went for it. Afterwards, I snooped around and investigated past entries and winners and my feelings soon shifted to sorrow as I believed with such a simplistic approach I had no chance. Now I have found out that I am in the top 20 - within grasp of being a VIP at The LOOK Show AW11 in association with Westfield Stratford City. I can't fathom the words to express my shock and happiness. Never have I won a competition and I know I still haven't but to be this close is inspiring.

My parents have always told me to never let opportunities pass me by and not allowing this one to slip through my fingers could be the best thing that I ever did.

Now York is one if my favourite places in the UK - everytime I go I feel that I am a million miles away from home and that all my troubles have slipped away from me. As I want to be a fashion journalist meeting Hilary Alexander when interning at The Daily Telegraph back in the summer of 2010 was a dream come true. How can she not be an inspiration? She has been awarded the Fashion journalist of the year twice, spent 26 sensational years with the Daily Telegraph, travelled the world, attended the most prestigious fashion shows and has shared seats with some of the most influential fashion professionals. An envious C.V by anyone's standards.

However, with my purchase of the new i-D magazine I discovered that Hilary is swapping the role of Daily Telegraph fashion director for archaeology.

During my internship I remember telling Hilary that I had applied to study at Nottingham Trent University and her response being very positive. I would love to say I am one of these fashion bloggers that can afford quirky designer and vintage gear but honestly I only own about a dozen vintage items and the most expensive item I own in probably an Anna Sui jacket that was a gift from an internship. However, the main shops I shop at are the high-street ones everyone loves; Topshop, Zara, H&M, Office, River Island, Ark, House of Fraser and Miss Selfridge.

The vintage shops I do go to are Cow, Lottiebel's Boutqiue, Freshman's and Bangbang. I normally attend Judy's affordable vintage fair too.
