JI CHENG S/S13 LFW show

The Ji Cheng S/S13 show was a unique collection as it was inspired by the oriental tea culture of Eastern society. This unusual influence of Chinese tea making, a traditional art form, was referenced through many elements, from the scattered tea leaves on the catwalk to conical bamboo hats which nested a geisha-like braided high ponytail. These aspects were married to more Westernised qualities such as the cotemporary tailoring and vivid, audacious and modern make-up; bright blushed cheeks and pink hued eyelids. It was this balance of opposing cultures and societies that gave an otherwise reserved collection vitality. The collection was a concoction of peplum silhouettes, plunge backlines, floaty skirts and dresses with subtle slits and high necklines all in a soft palette of cream with interjections of forest green, taupe, black and white. The simplistic designs were given a touch of dynamicity through textures and fabrics; organic cotton, linen, silks and sheer taffeta. There were also delicate pleats and tassels incorporated within certain pieces evoking a restrained playfulness. The looks were heavily accessorised with bangles, necklaces, woven bags and wooden heeled shoes – all adding to this natural, authentic aesthetic.
