NEEDLE AND THREAD HEAVEN

:

::::

A new exclusive ASOS brand has caught my magpie eye and it boasts a name full of craftsmanship; Needle and Thread. The hand-embellished pieces are a marriage of bohemian heart and Egyptian intricacy both of which are manifested in soft floaty shapes and calming colourways. Sandy hues and mosaic prints make for a more sophisticated and effortlessly feminine take on hippy attire. These delicate pieces of art offer us grown up playfulness and understated glamour finally giving the showy sequin more accessible appeal.

My favorite piece from the S/S 13 collection is the Blossom dress, a little pricey at £145 but showcases the most flattering and beautifully structured design for the female form. From the classic and demure to the sexy and sassy, the Tracing Mini Dress bares a decadent stenciled motif that exudes expense (and rightly so at £175). Getting cheaper the Mexica Mini Skirt at £95 is a substantially bejeweled garment, decorated in vibrancy and sheen. Finally, the Zylet dress made from 100% pure silk comes with a detachable slip, an Aztec-inspired design in hand-embellished sequins, contrast coloured beading and ribbed jersey trims. Currently in the sale from £145 to £72.50 it may have somehow found its way into my shopping basket.

Is this not the big IT label? With its niche offering and quality driven manufacturing, in a world dominated by technology and mass consumption a slice of Needle and Thread satisfies our thirst for authenticity and homogeneity. That's my excuse for spending nearly £80 on a dress anyway...
