London trip part one

I returned from London last night after spending two days there with my two great friend's Danielle Boam and Cara Webster. The reason for our trip to the capital city was for two reasons, firstly to celebrate the girl's 20th birthday by spending a day mulching around shops in the sun and secondly to attend the Pure Tradeshow in Kensington for some fashion research. As we did so much I am going to split my London trip into two post - this one focusing on the first more laid-back day. I want to start off by saying just how cheap it cost us to go to London - £28 each! We travelled via Megabus at a bargain price of £6 each way and then stayed overnight at a basic but adequate Travel Lodge in Kings Cross for £16 each. Once we arrived in London around 2pm we went straight from Victoria  Coach Station to our hotel in order to check in our heavy bags (note to self buy small travel suitcase as you don't have to carry it around with you). We all noticed just how HOT our room was as it wasn't air conditioned and the weather outside was as if we had gone to Spain for the day - I think around 29 degrees! Once we had chucked our bags into the room and opened the windows as far open as we could, we headed to Piccadily Circus. We enjoyed Mcdonalds on the grass area in the square - after all we are on a budget but the blazing sunshine made up for the lack of expensive grub. Cara bought a London keyring from the nearest souvenir shop as a keep sake momentum - but after that small splurge neither of us succumbed to our retail urges when looking around the mass of brands on offer. I fell in love with a Zara dress and I think if I didn't have the support of my two girlies I would have caved into buying it, despite not having enough money too. We were all really surprised how busy London was mid-day on a Monday, especially as the Olympics are now over and the Paralympics haven't yet started. I think if I lived in London the novelty of being in the thick of it could quickly turn into impatience and annoyance - that place is just far too crowded. Oh and I nearly got run over by a car by following pedestrians across the road despite the light not being green and I when I say nearly got ran over I mean I got hot flushes afterwards from just how close so, from that moment on Cara made a sensible rule of not crossing the road without the green man. We headed back to the hotel to get ready to go out for a meal in Covent Garden and after getting a bit confused finally found La Tasca and enjoyed some amazing tapas and sangria. I had chilli prawns, calamari and chicken and chorizo in white wine sauce using a 3 for 2 voucher (I am seriously getting used to having an iphone now with a constant supply of vouches and codes). The entire day was great fun and I think the sangria may have got to our heads a little because we spent most of the night in a laughing fit.

Thanks girls for an awesome trip :)
Hopefully tomorrow I'll have the London part two posted discussing our time at the Pure Tradeshow.
