New ventures
www.macomina.com
Just to keep you up-to-date with what else I am doing in my spare-time I thought I would talk about a new venture I have taken recently with a brand called Macomina. They are a very new music entertainment company who specialise in outdoor, camping music venues. The idea is to support emerging talent by going to secret locations, sleeping in comfy tipi's and watching fairly intimate performances with friends. Travel costs are included, along with the tipi's and entertainment for £65. This is what Macomina say about their business on their website 'you are the atmosphere. It is the creativity and energy of our consumers that gives Macomina its unique spirit.'
When Macomina announced that they was looking for a blogger to cover features on art, current events, culture, music, technology and fashion I was instantly interested. I really like the brand's friendly, whimsical and inviting values and as the company is new I thought that it was good to get involved now - as I am sure that what Macomina offers will be a hit with festival and music lovers seeking something different for their birthdays, anniversaries, holidays and more. A perk of the job is that I will get free tickets to these events. So, as soon as one comes up and I can go I shall be sure to cover the event and take lots of photographs so you guys can see what the events are like. At the moment they are across several locations in Nottingham, Sheffield, York, Birmingham and Leeds. So, I am sure there will be a destination closest to everyone, so put on your wellies and join in the fun! I shall try to link my features on here too so you can see what I am writing about. It is all very exciting stuff I hope you agree. My first feature on 'Can Printed and Digital publishing continue to co-exist' has been uploaded, so have a gander won't you?!

Clothes Show Live 2011
On Friday 2nd December I embarked on my second Clothes Show Live Style Scout mission. This year’s Clothes Show promised to be one hell of an event with a star-studded line up including performances from Kimberly Wyatt and Alexander Burke as well as the Fashion Theatre presenters George Lamb and Grace Woodward. So, I was excited to be covering the event and the task of discovering some stylish shoppers enjoying the annual fashion event in Birmingham.
To see and read about my stylish discoveries visit the Style Scout website here.
On the day my friend Cara and I headed to the Dance show, which was based around the concept of the department store. This season’s show boasted some of the best dance routines yet with a great mix of genres from ballet to street, creating a visual delight. The soundtrack to the show every year is a great merge of current chart toppers that make you want to get up and join the model dancers on stage – if only you could move the way they do! The show featured all the various floors of a department store and using an elevator prop, Menswear, Women’s designer wear, Urbanwear, lingerie and wedding wear were some of the areas explored. Each floor had its own bespoke dance routine that matched the mood and aesthetics of each clothing section which meant lots of energy, fun, sexiness and humour.
Aswell as the show we had a brilliant time rubbing shoulders with celebs in the VIP room and participating in one of the top UK shopping sensations of the year. My second Style Scout mission was another success. The official launch of the Style Scouts is imminent so make sure you have the free Clothes Show Style Scout APP available on on the iphone!

Work for the Clothes Show Live
Since august I have been an official blogger for The Clothes Show and the site is going to be launch in the beginning of 2011. Part of my job is covering Clothes Show events (along with free admission, paid travel expenses and access to the VIP lounge! What is a girl to do?) Me and my good friend Holly set off to Birmingham on Friday 3rd December for my first official Clothes Show scouting mission. In-between the occasional shopping, drinking and eating (there were many distractions) I hunted down some of the best head turning Clothes Show fashionistas with style to boot.
Firstly, I headed towards the vintage area hoping to find retro inspired individuals. My first victim was a lovely woman in a floor length leopard print dress with matching tanned leather belt and brogues. The dress, made for those with lovely long legs was elegantly floaty which contrasted well with the wild and busy print. When she revealed the origin of the dress; H&M and the price which was a very reasonable £29.99 I was surprised, assuming it was a forgotten gem discovered from a kooky boutique. The woman, who came from west London, said she normally did indeed shop in vintage stores such as Beyond Retro. I asked her if she had uncovered any great finds at the Clothes Show that day and she presented a sheer blouse which was leopard print, the girl was obviously in touch with her primal urges.
After another cocktail or two, which was free may I add from a promotional stand, I noticed a rather charming man sporting a 1940's style hat teamed with oxford shoes and grandad jumper - what made the look modern was his curly locks and drainpipe jeans. The gentleman expressed his fondness for charity shops as he announced that, 'the clothes that our elders once wore were the best' - hats off to you sir.
After the show, which was another amazing production inspired by various film genres, I returned to my scouting mission. I spotted a girl in a group wondering around the jewellery stands and there wasn't anything vintage about her. I instantly recognised that her navy cape coat was from Topshop, now £60, which she had styled with wet-look leggings and and hiking boots. Apart from the apparent Topshop advertising she said she was inspired by the likes of Kate Moss and Heidi Klum. Just as the day was coming to a close I made a last find. One very quirky individual with tattoos and a nose piercing caught my eye. She was wearing a purple velvet dress with lace neck collar and pointed shoes. Her rocky but sophisticated vibe reminded me of Fearne cotton's dress sense and it turned out she was one of her idols. She had never been to the Clothes Show before but proclaimed that she had a fantastic day out with her friends -' fashion, shopping and a show - what's not to like. I shall definitely be returning next year.'
My first official scouting had been a success; I had a wonderful fun filled day, found some truly trendy people and some shopping finds of my own. First Scouting mission, done.

Helping out at a fashion show or two...
For years, just before children returned to school and the weather returned to its formidable (and very English) bitter cold, a fair unfolded in Sheffield's scenic Botanical Gardens.
The fair, unlike many, was one for the arts. Paintings, sculptures made from all sorts of materials, hand-made jewellery and home-made deserts were all on offer. The event revealed the work of true British craftsmanship and charm. There were places where you could dress-up in nineteenth century clothing and enjoy tea in petite china amongst the hustle and bustle. There were bands who performed acoustic ballads, which set a calming ambiance within the beautiful fairytale gardens.
I however, was attending the event to help backstage at the fashion show. Elizabeth A Edwards is a local, successful designer who produces beautiful clothing from recycled fabrics in her label, Hope&Glory. All the clothing is made from existing materials such as table cloths and curtains. Everything she creates is ethically made and produced. The designs are 1920's - 1950's inspired with bow detailing and feminine palettes. These fashion shows have raised in excess of £2,500 for PACT – the Parents' Association of Children with Tumours and Leukaemia, which is based at the Children’s Hospital in Sheffield.
Backstage I helped dress the models which was manic at times but loads of fun. Just after dressing the final models at the end of the show I managed to catch a glimpse of it. The final model to walk out glided elegantly in a stunning floor length red wedding dress and behind her Edwards's daughter in a floral wrap dress carrying a bouquet of matching flowers.
The day, packed full of entertainment and talent made me very proud to be British.

Stella Magazine
After interning with the Daily Telegraph I did a few days work experience at Stella Magazine. They needed an extra pair of hands sending returns back to press offices and preparing for a photo shoot. The Stella team was a fairly small tight knitted group of profession people. I caught a glimpse of the magazine being formed and articles being written. The fashion cupboard where I was mostly situated was full to the brim with beauty products and garments. I was truly in my element.

My Daily Telegraph work experience
My work experience at The Daily Telegraph in London was amazing. Not only did I get to meet one of my journalist heroes Hilary Alexander but she gave me an Anna Sui jacket too! OK so it doesn't fit but it's the gesture that counts. Hilary also told me that the University I am going to, Nottingham Trent University is a good choice for the field of work I want to pursue, Fashion Journalism.
During my time at The Telegraph I promoted an in-office fashion sale, organised look books, answered phones, set up interviews, sent back (and touched) beautiful designer sample pieces from fashion shoots and didn't make a single coffee once. The internship also led on to more work experience for the fashion supplement, Stella magazine, where I made close friends with another intern.
The highlight to the last day was when I was told that I could 'come back whenever.' That made me realise that I had made an impact and had done my best. The Daily Telegraph isn't Vogue or Elle but it is a highly respectable company with world-renowned employees that I have managed to make an impression on. Start small in work experience and you will reap the rewards.
